Manchester United ‘should move fast’ to ensure they are at the front of the queue to sign PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo when the transfer window reopens, according to journalist Dean Jones. Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag spent more than £200million ahead of the deadline earlier this month, but it appears he has already set his sights on further big-money additions to his squad.
According to Forbes, Manchester United remain interested in Gakpo after tracking him throughout the summer transfer window. The report suggests the Red Devils agreed personal terms with the winger, who has already scored 10 goals and racked up a further nine assists in 13 appearances, but opted against testing PSV’s resolve by lodging a bid.
Leeds United and Southampton went into deadline day still in the hunt for Gakpo’s services and hopeful of striking an eleventh hour deal.
However, a switch failed to come to fruition after PSV opted against sanctioning the 23-year-old’s departure. It is understood that the Dutch giants value Gakpo at £38million and turned down a £21.4million offer from Southampton during the closing stages of the window.
