Manchester United now fear Cristiano Ronaldo could walk away from Old Trafford this summer as doubts over his future continue, according to transfer insider Dean Jones. Ronaldo only sealed his return to the Red Devils less than 12 months ago, but there are question marks over whether he will still be on the club’s books by the time the summer window slams shut on September 1.
Manchester United were rocked when Ronaldo asked to be allowed to leave the club if a satisfactory offer is forthcoming during the remainder of the transfer window.
Premier League rivals Chelsea, along with Italian side Napoli, were named as potential destinations for the forward. The development came after new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly – who completed a £4.25billion takeover in May – held a meeting with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes, where talks over a potential move to Stamford Bridge were held.
While a switch to west London has not come to fruition, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could end up heading to Atletico Madrid.
