Manchester City suffered an early injury blow against Newcastle when goalkeeper Ederson had to be substituted in the opening minutes.
He collided with Sean Longstaff as the Newcastle man bundled the ball into the net in the 4th minute, with the goal then being ruled out for offside.
Ederson had to be replaced by Stefan Ortega a few minutes later. After attempting to carry on, the Brazil international was very nearly guilty of gifting Newcastle a goal with Kyle Walker bailing him out after Bruno Guimaraes scuffed his effort.
Following the near-miss Pep Guardiola was seen frantically gesticulating for Ortega to get himself ready to come on. A long-term absence for Ederson due to injury could be detrimental to Man City's hopes of winning trophies this season with the Premier League title race as a result given a fresh twist.
