One of the main roads in central Stockport will be closed for up to two months as a crane for one of the town centre's major redevelopment projects is erected and put to work.
King Street West, which runs between the town centre and Edgeley, will be closed from the Heaton Lane roundabout to Chestergate from Monday (October 23).
A huge crane, which will be used as part of the work of the transformation of Weir Mill, will soon be erected. The historic Grade II-listed mill on the banks of the River Mersey is being transformed, with the creation of 250 new flats spaces for indie businesses including bars, restaurants, cafés and shops and a new square. The Edgeley Community Association, a group of three local councillors, said in a social media post: "The crane will sit in the closed section of the road and a diversion will be in place for potentially up to eight weeks." The closure will apply only to motorists, with pedestrians able to get through - along with cyclists - as long as they dismount.
