Jurgen Klopp has backed Loris Karius to perform well for Newcastle against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final. United are set to make the trip to Wembley to play Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, but Eddie Howe will be without his No.1 goalkeeper Nick Pope, who received a straight red card for handling the ball outside his box against Liverpool.
That red card means Pope is suspended for the final, which has given Newcastle a goalkeeper crisis to contend with, as second-choice Martin Dubravka is cup-tied and unavailable to be selected having already played in the competition this season while at Old Trafford on loan. After Liverpool's win against Newcastle, Klopp, who signed Karius and subsequently let him go on a free transfer, was asked for his thoughts on the goalkeeper playing in the final and he backed him to shine against United.
Klopp said about his mentality: "I have no doubt about that. He's a great goalie, that's why Newcastle signed him." Newcastle could play fourth-choice goalkeeper Mark Gillespie over Karius but it seems certain the German will start.
