A superb second-half chip from Julian Brandt sent Borussia Dortmund to the top of the Bundesliga table with a 1-0 home win over Werder Bremen on Friday.

Bremen-born Brandt, playing his 300th league match, broke the deadlock midway through the second half, dinking a composed finish over the 'keeper to give his side the lead.

The win means Dortmund finish Friday evening one point clear atop the table, although Bayer Leverkusen can re-take the lead with a win at Wolfsburg on Saturday. "I have to say, it went pretty well today," Brandt told DAZN after the game.

Brandt, who returned from Germany's USA tour less than 48 hours before the match, said: "I'm very happy, but very tired. I'll be glad when I'm laying in bed." Dortmund manager Edin Terzic said it was a "highly deserved win, when you see the chances we left behind".

MUNICH, Germany : Bayern Munich's shock German Cup loss to third division Saarbruecken was painful but the team are confident of winning Saturday's Bundesliga clash at Borussia Dortmund, coach Thomas Tuchel said on Friday.
Borussia Dortmund's home clash with injury-ravaged Bayern Munich on Saturday is their best chance to beat their bitter rivals in years. Bayern have not lost to Dortmund in the league in five years but travel north missing several stars, particularly in defence. Bayern Munich crashed out of the German Cup in the second round for the third time in four years after a remarkable 2-1 loss at third-division Saarbruecken on Wednesday, thanks to a last-minute winner from Marcel Gaus. With the scores locked at 1-1 and the match looking destined for extra time, defender Gaus netted in the sixth minute of injury time to grab his team a famous victory. "When a first-division team like Bayern comes to Saarbruecken and loses, then we did something wrong," veteran Thomas Mueller told ARD after the match.
