Indian Men's Skeet Team Shoots Gold In Asian Championship

The Indian men's trio of Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, Gurjoat Khangura and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa won the gold medal with a combined total of 358 in men's skeet team event of the Asian Shooting Championship in Changwon, South Korea.

The Indians' aggregate score was enough to pip the Korean team by a point, while Kazakhstan finished third. Naruka and Khangura also made the individual final but missed out on medals, and the two available Paris Olympic quota places, after finishing fourth and sixth respectively.

Sarabjot Singh and Surbhi Rao also won a silver for India on the day. They shot a combined 581 in qualification, the same score shot by four other teams including two Chinese pairs who took the top two positions by virtue of greater accuracy.

The Indians were third, but as only one team from a country could make the final, Sarabjot and Surbhi were drawn to play Li Xue and Liu Jinyao for gold.

Ivanie Blondin earned her second medal in as many days at the speed skating World Cup opener in Obihiro, Japan, on Saturday, linking up with Isabelle Weidemann and Valérie Maltais to take the women's team pursuit silver.

Indian Women Beat Japan 2-1, Assure Semifinal Berth In Asian Champions Trophy Hockey

An in-form India eked out a narrow 2-1 win over Japan to register their fourth straight win and storm into the semifinals of the women's Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament on Tuesday. After two goalless quarters, Navneet Kaur (31st minute) and Sangita Kumari (47th) scored for India, while Japan's lone goal came from the stick of Kana Urata (37th). It was a match between two undefeated sides in the tournament and it lived up to the billing. India had earlier defeated Thailand 7-1 in their opener before getting the better of Malaysia and China 5-0 and 2-1 respectively. The Japanese too were undefeated coming into the match, having registered wins over Malaysia 3-0, South Korea 4-0 and Thailand 4-0 respectively.

AFC Olympic Qualifiers: Indian Women End Campaign With Defeat Against Uzbekistan

The Indian women's team bowed out of the AFC Olympic Qualifiers Round 2 with a 0-3 loss to Uzbekistan in Tashkent on Wednesday. In the four-team group, India had earlier lost to Japan and Vietnam. Backed by a loud, if not capacity crowd, Uzbekistan immediately applied pressure on India, and started dominating possession. The equation was clear: a win would put Uzbekistan in prime contention for the best second-place team slot. India, meanwhile, were playing for pride. Within two minutes though Uzbekistan took the lead from a set piece.
