After days of glorious baking sunshine, a Met Office weather warning for thunderstorms comes into force in Greater Manchester at 2pm today - Saturday.

The warning area covers central Greater Manchester and extends north to Bolton and to the border of Wigan in the west. The Met Office warning reads: "A few heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible, perhaps leading to some disruption. "Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds." Highs of 25C in Manchester are expected from 2pm, with slight cloud cover ending an hour later at 3pm, said the Met Office forecast.

Temperatures will only start to cool by 7pm, with sunset at 7.40pm. For Saturday here, the Met Office predicted 'another very warm, humid and mostly dry day, with a small chance of heavy and thundery showers in the afternoon.
