Hornets' LaMelo Ball out for season after right ankle surgery

Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball had successful surgery on his broken right ankle and will miss the rest of the season, the team said on Wednesday.

Ball was injured in the third quarter of Monday night's win over the Detroit Pistons. He was dribbling the ball behind his back and immediately went down in pain.

Ball's other ankle has troubled him multiple times this season — he's sprained his left ankle three times, limiting him to only 36 games.

The 21-year-old Ball is averaging 23.4 points and 8.5 assists this season. He made the All-Star Game last year. Charlotte entered Wednesday with 19 games left on the regular-season schedule.
