Rohit Sharma praised Rachin Ravindra for his match-winning performance as New Zealand defeated India by eight wickets in the opening Test at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Ravindra was named Player of the Match after the Black Caps (New Zealand) secured their first Test victory on Indian soil in 36 years.

Ravindra's crucial innings of 134 in the first innings allowed the Kiwis to establish a commanding lead of 356 runs after they bowled out Rohit's team for just 46.

His century also made him the first New Zealand batter in 12 years to score a Test century in India, following Ross Taylor's hundred in 2012.

As the Indian cricket team stares at a whitewash against New Zealand, having already lost 2 matches of the series, captain Rohit Sharma has been sent a bold message to eave out Jasprit Bumrah. Arguably the finest pace bowler in the country, Bumrah hasn't been effective as much as the team would've liked him to be on spin-friendly pitches against New Zealand. Ahead of the third Test in Wankhede, Dinesh Karthik has told the Indian team management to give Bumrah a rest ahead of the Australia tour.
Skipper Rohit Sharma backed Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja's performance following India's defeat in the second Test match against New Zealand and said that there's too much expectation on the two all-rounders. Tom Latham's New Zealand team made history by defeating Rohit's side by 113 runs in the second Test match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Saturday, clinching their first-ever series win in India. This loss marks India's first home Test series defeat since 2012, ending an 18-series winning streak--the longest home winning sequence for any team.
The Indian cricket team is facing severe criticism after losing the Test series at home against New Zealand in Pune. The visiting side is 2-0 up after the first two Tests in the three-match series with a chance of clean sweep not being ruled out. This is the first time after 12 years that India have lost a Test series at home. The last time it happened MS Dhoni was still the captain of the Indian cricket team. The loss has also dented India's chances to qualify for the World Test Championship final.
India succumbed to its first-ever Test series loss at home in 12 years on Saturday after New Zealand thrashed them by 113 runs in the second Test. The last time India lost a Test series at home, it was against Alastair Cook-led England in 2012. Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner weaved magic with his 6-104 in the second innings on Saturday as New Zealand did the unimaginable by clinching a historic Test series win in India for the first time with a 113-run victory over the hosts. Santner, who took 7-53 in the first innings, rattled India yet again with a remarkable spell of 6-104 to end up with match figures of 13-157, the third-best match figures for a bowler from his country in Tests.
India skipper Rohit Sharma says he won't "overreact" after the embarrassing series defeat against New Zealand but he underlined the necessity to have a "quiet chat with certain individuals" to discuss the way forward. India lost the second Test by 113 runs after failing in pursuit of a stiff 359-run target. This was India's first home series defeat in 12 years after conceding a four-match rubber against England 1-2 in 2012-13.
Rohit Sharma was a disappointed man after India lost the second Test of a three-match series against New Zealand. This is India first Test series defeat at home in 12 years with Mitchel Santner yet again exposing their frailties against quality spin bowling as the crushing 113-run defeat in the second match enervated the team's pole position in the World Test Championship. If the hosts endured their first defeat after 18 consecutive Test series victories, New Zealand celebrated their first ever series-victory on the Indian soil in nearly 70 years.
