Gillingham head coach Stephen Clemence prepared for nail-biting conclusion to League 2 play-off race

Gillingham head coach Stephen Clemence predicts the League 2 play-off race will go down to the wire. The Gills, in ninth, are only outside the top seven on goal difference after Tuesday’s 2-2 home draw against Swindon following last Friday’s 3-1 victory at Notts County - the side in the final play-off berth.

Clemence’s side had to come from behind in their last two fixtures but four points is a decent return as they head towards the business end of the season.

It’s a much better position than the club found themselves in this time last year, though, when they were just outside the relegation zone.

Clemence said: “We seem to be doing things the wrong way around a lot at the moment. “We will have to go to Newport [on Saturday] and try to get a result.
