Former Hythe Town manager Andy Drury discusses his exit from Reachfields and says he has no plans to return to football
Andy Drury says it’s time to put his family first after resigning as Hythe Town manager.
Drury, who stood down on Saturday night after only eight matches in charge, wasn’t enjoying the job.
He feels a weight has been lifted since making the call and has no plans to return to football.
Instead, the former Ipswich and Luton midfielder is looking forward to spending quality time with his family.
Drury became Hythe’s third manager this season when he took charge at the end of January.
But, like Ira Jackson and Darren Beale before him, results proved hard to come by and the Cannons find themselves heading for successive relegations.
They slipped 12 points from safety in the Southern Counties East Premier Division after losing 5-2 at Kennington in Drury’s final match on Saturday.
Hythe went on to lose 5-0 at Tunbridge Wells on Tuesday night and have only five matches to play.
“It’s one of those things where it was taking up an incredible amount of time trying to get players to go down to Hythe,” said Drury.
“I’ve had a good career in football and it’s time for me now to make sure I spend time watching my kids grow up instead of spending every night looking for players and trying to speak to players, to get turned down.
“I’m putting my family first. I just want to make sure I don’t miss out on seeing my girls grow up.
“I want to step back from football and enjoy a bit of family life and make sure I’m there for them.
“I haven’t got any ambitions to go back into football.
“If I did go back in, it would be a favour for someone, whether that’s playing or going in to help out.
“You’re on a hiding to nothing in management. It’s a lot of time and effort for not a lot of reward.
“You’ve got to prioritise things in life. It’s a weight
