Everton manager Frank Lampard will be “over the moon” after managing to keep hold of Anthony Gordon, says journalist Pete O’Rourke. The 21-year-old was the subject of heavy interest from Chelsea during the summer transfer window but, in the end, the Merseyside club were able to retain his services.
According to a recent report from The Guardian, data analysts at Chelsea pushed for the west London outfit to sign Gordon when the market was still open.
The same outlet states, however, that former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel did not actually want the 6 ft winger. Despite that, it has been suggested that Chelsea did put in a couple of bids for Gordon, including one worth £45m.
While Everton’s Premier League rivals were not able to land Gordon, they still managed to strengthen their attack with the additions of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, so missing out on him was hardly catastrophic for them.
