Duncan Ferguson has sent a defiant message to Everton fans, reassuring them they'll be safe despite a "heavy' 10 point deduction.

The Goodison Park club were slapped with the sanction after an English Premier League Commission found them guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.

It has since been reported that the £16million signing of Nathan Patterson from Rangers was one of the transfer that tipped authorities over the edge after issuing the Merseyside club warnings over their spending.

Sean Dyche's side are now joint bottom of the table with Burnley, having seen their points tally slashed from 14 to four. But Ferguson, who remains a hero on the blue half of Merseyside after his long association with the Toffees, has reassured Evertonians that they'll still beat the drop this season and end up "well safe." "How good are they doing at the moment?" said the Inverness CT boss on BBC Radio Scotland. "Unfortunately they got the points deduction, which they knew was coming, but they'll still be safe. "They've got a good enough squad there.
