The number of thefts from vehicles in Greater Manchester reported to the police has dropped over the past year, according to the force.
Greater Manchester Police said over the past 12 months, 12,365 of these crimes were recorded. This compared to 13,387 in the previous year – a fall of 7.6 per cent.
In the same time period, 208 people were arrested in relation to thefts from vehicles, while 105 people were charged. This is up on the previous year with 170 arrested and 77 charged. Extra resources have been deployed to target criminals, the force said. Superintendent Ian Jones, force vehicle crime lead for Greater Manchester Police, said: "We use a range of tactics to combat vehicle crime and those methods are now being shared with other forces across the UK.
