Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has raised concerns over young India batter Shubman Gill's form in Test cricket. Pietersen, who masterminded England's last Test series win in India, urged head coach Rahul Dravid to take Gill under his wing.

The 43-year-old acknowledged Gill's talent, but feels that the youngster still needs to work on his game. He made the comments after Gill played a rash shot to get out on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against England.

Citing his own experience with Gill, Pietersen gave valuable inputs to the Indian team management for Gill's development. "Shubman Gill has somebody in the dressing room now who changed my game, Rahul Dravid.

So I would say to Rahul Dravid and I don't know how much of the broadcast he watches, please go and spend time with Gill and do the same stuff that he talked to me about.

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has questioned wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat's role in the Test team. Since making his Test debut last year against Australia in Nagpur, Bharat has scored just 221 runs in seven matches, averaging a meagre 20.09. He is yet to score a half-century in the longest format of the game. Manjrekar feels since Bharat is not contributing much with the bat, the management should look at other alternatives. Manjrekar doesn't feel the management should invest more time in Bharat, especially with Rishabh Pant waiting in the wings.

Both Gill and Iyer failed to make an impact once again, throwing away their wickets after decent starts for 34 and 27 runs respectively. This continues their recent poor run of form in Test cricket.
Former India captain Anil Kumble feels that the embattled Shubman Gill has been given the kind of "cushion" that veteran Cheteshwar Pujara never got and the young batter needs to make it count in the second Test against England or risk being under tremendous pressure. The 24-year-old Gill has not scored a half century in his last 11 Test innings. He scored a 128 in India's first innings against visiting Australian in Ahmedabad in March last year, but after that his highest score has been 36.
