Nigeria’s only representatives at the 2023 African Club Hockey Championships in Malawi, Delta Queens Hockey Club, returned to the country as the third best team of the event.

The Nigerians defeated Malawi’s Genetrix 10-0 to finish third in the seven-team event. The coach Ade Jacob-led Delta Queens played six games, won four, drew one and lost one at the championships.

Chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa, who led the team to Malawi, told The Guardian, yesterday, that Delta Queens’ participation in the championships gave the players and their coaches’ opportunity of playing with some top teams in the continent.

He commended Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for his prompt attention to issues concerning sports in the state, adding that Delta sports has proven to be the nation’s No 1 in sports.   “I also commend our players and coaches for their ability to stand against strong oppositions and coming back with the bronze medal,” Okowa stated.
