Australia batter David Warner is out of the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a hairline fracture on their left elbow, Cricket Australia has confirmed.

Warner was substituted out of the second Test in New Delhi after sustaining a concussion last week. That blow came not long after the opening batter had been struck on the arm by another rising delivery.

Later x-rays revealed that the left-hander had sustained a hairline fracture of the elbow which will keep him out of the remaining two matches of the Test series.

However, the southpaw is expected to return for the ODI series later. Warner couldn't get going in the first two matches of the series, returning just 26 runs from his three completed innings before being replaced by Matthew Renshaw as a concussion substitute in the second Test. "David Warner has been ruled out of the Qantas test tour of India and will return home," Cricket Australia said in a statement. "Warner was struck on the elbow in the second Test in Delhi and sustained a hairline fracture. "After further assessment, he will require a period of rehabilitation which will preclude any further involvement in the remainder of the Test series. "It is currently anticipated that he will return to India for the three One-Day Internationals which follow the Test Series," the statement further read.

While the Indian batsmen looking quite comfortable against the Australia bowlers, veteran spinner Nathan Lyon was able to claim a massive milestone. With the dismissal of KS Bharat, Lyon became the highest overseas wicket-taker in Test matches on Indian soil. Underwood had 54 wickets against India in away matches from 16 games with best figures of 5 for 84.
The performance of Indian bowlers on Day 1 of the fourth Test match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad was uneven to say the least. While the hosts were able to take two wickets in the first session, most bowlers struggled with consistency and Usman Khawaja's brilliant ton meant that Australia ended Day 1 in the driving seat. However, the one India player who earned praise for his commitment on the field was skipper Rohit Sharma. Rohit looked proactive with his captaincy and kept trying out different bowling combinations to trouble the visitors. During the drinks break before Cameron Green came out to bat for Australia, Rohit was caught on video having an animated conversation with the team as he gestured towards the scoreboard and instructed his teammates.

Opener Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green were batting on 104 and 49 respectively at the close of play. After skipper Steve Smith opted to bat, Australia were off to a good start with the duo of Khawaja and Travis Head adding 61 runs for the first wicket.
I n Ahmedabad, everything is about colour. Hot pink and deep purple to celebrate Holi festival the day before Thursday’s fourth Test. The sea of orange planned for morning one, masses of people brought in on buses in a political flex for India’s prime minister. Emerald green for the pitch that India would have used had they won the third Test and locked in a World Test Championship final in England. Pure white covers on the drier pitch they will use instead, with a win still required.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting fears struggling David Warner runs the risk of missing out on the Ashes series and his Test career might end on a tragic note following his prolonged dry run with the bat. Ponting feels Warner would struggle to find a place in the touring Ashes squad and his Test career might just not end on his own terms. Warner had a torrid tour of India, where he scored 1, 10 and 15 in three innings before returning home with a fractured elbow. The left-hander has struggled in the last England tour in 2019, averaging just 9.5. "I've heard him talk before about their cycle. This current cycle will finish after the World Test Championship, which is obviously the week before the first Ashes Test and I would think all going well that they want to get David through until the end of that Test match at least," Ponting was quoted as saying by RSN Cricket.
