It was a sight to witness at Mumbai during the ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal between India and New Zealand as Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and England football icon David Beckham shared a moment together.

Beckham took to Facebook to share a picture of him meeting Rohit. While Beckham was wearing a Team India jersey of number 45 featuring Rohit's name, the 'Hitman' wore Beckham's number 23 shirt from his stint with Spanish giants Real Madrid. "Great to meet you captain Good luck in the final Rohit Sharma Indian Cricket Team," said the caption of Beckham's Facebook post.

Rohit is one of the best opening batters of all time. With 18,192 runs in 461 international matches with 45 centuries and 100 fifties, including 10,662 runs in 261 ODIs with 31 centuries and 55 fifties, the Indian skipper is regarded as one of the best to ever do it.

Chopra also named Shubman Gill as a possible alternative along with Pant and although not much is known about his captaincy skills, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season will see the opener lead Gujarat Titans after the departure of Hardik Pandya. India captain Rohit Sharma continues to remain absent from the national T20I side and has also taken a break from the ODI format for the series against South Africa. As fans remain hopeful of his return to white-ball cricket, there have been talks around his continuity as India's skipper. Though India failed to win the ODI World Cup 2023 under Rohit's leadership, the campaign for the hosts was far from a disappointing one. But, it's also true that after MS Dhoni, no other Indian skipper has managed to crack the ICC code in the Indian team.
Rohit Sharma's request to the BCCI for a break from white-ball cricket in South Africa despite being offered T20 captaincy has been accepted, while Jasprit Bumrah has been named his deputy for the two Tests starting December 26. Virat Kohli's request for a break from limited-overs games too has been accepted as Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul will lead the national team in T20Is and ODIs respectively. However, it is understood that Hardik Pandya is no longer an automatic choice for T20 captaincy in the T20 World Cup next year if Rohit decides to play the shortest format.
India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said Thursday Rohit Sharma "doesn't need to be taught to score hundreds", backing his captain to the hilt after his failure to convert a blazing start into a big score in the World Cup final against Australia attracted criticism. Rohit was in full flow throughout the tournament and the brisk starts that India enjoyed were largely due to his pyrotechnics at the top of the order. Scoring at an incredible strike rate of 125, he amassed 597 runs in 11 matches.
1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev showered praises on skipper Rohit Sharma telling him to keep his spirits high as India stands with him. After putting India to bat in the World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Rohit ensured that the Men in Blue got off to a flying start with his blistering knock of 47 off 31 balls. But Maxwell's wicked spin and Travis Head's sensational catch brought an end to Rohit's time on the field. From that point, the free-flowing boundaries became a rarity as the rest of the batters struggled to find the fence.
