Virat Kohli added another massive milestone to his already illustrious career as he went past the 1000-run mark in ODIs in 2023 on Thursday.

Kohli achieved the feat during the Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as the veteran India batter continued his brilliant run of form in the competition.

This was the eighth time that Kohli scored 1000+ runs in a calendar year and as a result, he broke the world record held by legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar achieved the feat seven times during his legendary career in ODI cricket. Most times scoring 1000+ ODI runs in a calendar year 8 - Virat Kohli (2011-14, 2017-19, 2023)* 7 - Sachin Tendulkar (1994, 1996-98, 2000, 2003, 2007) Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Australia beat India by six wickets to lift their sixth title in the Cricket World Cup in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Opener Travis Head starred during the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday by hitting a sparkling 137 off 120 deliveries, powering Australia to a convincing six-wicket win. Head joined Ricky Ponting and Gilchrist as the third Australian to score a century in a men's World Cup final. Let's  look at the tops and flops at the 13th edition of the tournament.
Mohammed Shami's mother, Anum Ara, was taken to a hospital near Sahashpur village in the Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh after she fell ill during the Cricket World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia on Sunday, according to a report by Times of India. The report claimed that she complained of nervousness and fever during the match and Shami's relatives took him to the local hospital for a checkup. She was later transferred to another health centre after the initial treatment and the report added that her condition is now stable. "She was admitted to the hospital due to fever and nervousness. Now, her condition is normal." Shami's cousin Dr Mumtaz told The Times of India.
An expressionless Virat Kohli gave a quick handshake and hug to an equally expressionless Shubman Gill before going to collect his runners-up medal. It was the most poignant moment of a teary Sunday night for the Indian cricket team. It, perhaps, was the most visible sign of the imminent generational shift in Indian cricket after the hosts failed to grasp a third World Cup. Of course, veterans such as Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami might be around for some more time, but now it is up to a younger crop to take the team forward and build a new legacy unscarred from the past failures. Gill (24), Shreyas Iyer (28), Ishan Kishan (25), Ruturaj Gaikwad (26) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (21) will soon, hopefully, be joined by a recovering Rishabh Pant (26) as India will hit the road to the T20 World Cup 2024 and beyond.
A scintillating century by Travis Head proved to be the point of difference as Australia beat India by seven wickets to clinch their sixth ICC Cricket World Cup title at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Australia have officially won a World Cup title in the decades of 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. For India, their decade-long wait for a major ICC Trophy continues as after overcoming the semifinal hurdle, they have lost in the final. In the chase of 241, Men in Blue started off with an expensive over by Jasprit Bumrah as he was smashed for 15 runs, including three fours. Also, a catch was missed on the first ball itself. But Virat Kohli, who had missed the catch in the first over, made up for his error as Mohammed Shami struck in his first over, removing David Warner for just seven. India was 16/1 in 1.1 overs.
Legendary Indian cricket team skipper Sunil Gavaskar named his two picks for Cricket World Cup 2023 Player of the Tournament and it did not include fast bowler Mohammed Shami. In an interaction with India Today, Gavaskar was all praise for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for their performances in the ongoing competition and ahead of the final against Australia, he picked the two Indian cricket team stars to emerge as the 'Player Of The Competition'. The one major exclusion was pacer Mohammed Shami who has enjoyed a phenomenal run of form and is currently the highest wicket-taker in the competition.
India will look to clinch their third ICC ODI World Cup crown when they take on Australia in the final of the ongoing edition on Sunday, November 19. Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will stage the final, with a scheduled start time of 2:00 PM IST. The Indian cricket team has been in terrific form, winning each of their nine league phase matches to finish atop the points table. The two-time champions faced New Zealand in the semi-final at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, where they emerged victorious by 70 runs.
