Nigerian duo Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala at the 2023 CAF AwardsNigeria’s Presidency and Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have saluted Victor Osimhen, Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie and Super Falcons for their success at the 2023 CAF awards in Morocco on Monday.Osimhen beat Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi to win the Men’s Player of the Year award.The Napoli striker becomes the first Super Eagles player to win the award since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.Also, he is the fifth Nigerian player to win the award after the late Rashidi Yekini, Emmanuel Amuneke, Nwankwo Kanu, and Victor Ikpeba.For Oshoala, she won a record-extending sixth title while Nnadozie went home with the Women’s Best Goalkeeper award.Also, Nigeria was named Africa’s Best Nation Always Team for women.Reacting to the success achieved at the award, the country’s Presidency took to X to salute Oshoala for a record-extending award, Osimhen for becoming the latest recipient of the men’s Player award and Nnadozie for picking the award for Best Goalkeeper.Also, the Presidency praised the Super Falcons for emerging Best National Team for women in Africa.Governor Sanwo-Olu also took to his X handle to express his delight.He praised Osimhen for finally ending a 24-year wait for a Super Eagles player to be crowned Africa’s best.He hailed Oshoala for winning the women’s award fifth consecutive time which took her feat to six.Also, he congratulated Nnadozie and the Super Falcons for being named 2023 National Team of the Year.He added that all of the victories are remarkable testament to Nigeria’s football prowess, and they will continue to support the players.Get the latest news delivered straight to your inbox every day of the week.
