Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan was happy to have the consolation of a first World Cup point and her memorable save from Nigeria player Uchenna Kanu in their tournament swansong.Kanu looked like scoring early in the second half, only for Brosnan to push the ball away and keep the game scoreless. It was the highlight of a game of few chances in which the conservative Irish side were happy to come away with the draw and clean sheet.Brosnan said: "It was an unbelievable cross - one of those teasing ones - and I thought I could come.

At the last second I dropped back and I knew I needed to make a special save on the line so I just sort of threw my body at it."I wanted to keep us in because I knew we deserved something from today so I'm really happy with that."We were disappointed not to make it out of the group and we thought we deserved something from the tournament so it's great to get a point on the board.

Obviously we wanted three but to keep a clean sheet is amazing. It's a testament to this team. We have worked to the very end, we wanted to show we deserved to be here and we did."Courtney Brosnan makes a stunning save to keep the Republic of Ireland level #wwc2023 #coygig
