Rochdale MP Sir Tony Lloyd has died aged 73, his family have announced. The member of parliament, who is also a former Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester, announced recently he had developed 'aggressive and untreatable leukaemia'.
It was announced on Wednesday (January 17) that he had passed away, as a public statement issued by his family said they had been left 'devastated' by the loss.
Following his death, tributes to the veteran Labour politician have been flooding in. Earlier this month, Mr Lloyd said he had made the decision to leave hospital after his cancer had developed and to "spend the time I have left with my family".
His loved ones announced he died 'peacefully' on Wednesday morning 'surrounded by his family'. This is a breaking story.
