Brilliant Ben Doak gave the watching Steve Clarke food for thought as Scotland U21s lit a fuse under their Euro qualifying campaign with a 3-1 win over Hungary.
But another new kid on the block would have caught the eye of the top team boss and his management team too as Fulham’s Kieran Bowie netted a deadly double inside the first seven minutes to set Scot Gemmill’s side on their way.
The front duo were on fire to make Clarke ’s stop off in Motherwell en-route to Lille worthwhile ahead of Tuesday’s friendly with France with Doak having been name-checked by the top team boss last month.
The Liverpool ace netted his first U21 goal from the penalty spot to settle matters after Bowie’s early brace. Whether Doak - who was taken off after 61 minutes of running Hungary ragged - will be promoted to the top team before Tuesday remains to be seen.
