Pakistan Test batter Asad Shafiq has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after experiencing a dip in his passion for the game.

The 37-year-old made the announcement on Sunday. “I am not feeling the same excitement and passion playing cricket and neither do I have the same fitness levels required for international cricket.

Which is why I have decided to say goodbye to all cricket,” he told a press conference after leading Karachi Whites to the National T20 Championship title.

Asad also confirmed he was about to sign a contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board to be a paid national selector. “I have got the contract from the board and I am looking at it and hopefully it will be processed soon.” He said working as a national selector was an exciting challenge for him and he would look to remain involved in the game.

Iceland Cricket has taken a jibe at Mohammad Hafeez after the Pakistan cricket team director claimed that "inconsistent umpiring and technology curse" cost them the second Test match against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. "We made some mistakes as a team, we will take that, we will address those things, but at the same time I believe inconsistent umpiring and technology curse (has) really given us the result which should have been different," said Hafeez in the post-match press conference.
In a rare sight, Australia collected five runs without any boundaries or no ball in the second innings of the ongoing Boxing Day Test against Pakistan in Melbourne. The incident happened after play resumed on Day 4 with Australia captain Pat Cummins and wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey in the middle. Cummins pushed Aamer Jamal's delivery through point as he and Carey sneaked a couple of runs. However, the throw to the bowler's end was missed by Jamal and it resulted in an overthrow.
Pakistan cricket team star Abdullah Shafique was once again criticised heavily after he dropped a sitter at first slip to provide a lifeline to Mitchell Marsh on Day 3 of the second Test match against Australia in Melbourne. It was a straightforward chance but he ended up closing his hands too soon and the ball bounced out much to the disappointment of Pakistan. Shafique had earlier dropped a catch from David Warner in the first innings and former Australia slip fielder Mark Waugh was not impressed.“Like a crocodile jaw trying to take a catch. Get him out of there,” Waugh said on commentary.
Cricket in 2023 was in many ways reassuring. As the world around us evolved at breakneck speed, a return to the "routine" had its own charm.
A stubborn Marnus Labuschagne weathered a storm to help steer Australia to 187-3 on a rain-disrupted opening day of the second Test in Melbourne Tuesday against a probing and resilient Pakistan attack. At stumps, he was unbeaten on a glacial 44 off 120 balls and Travis Head was not out on nine after nearly three hours' play were lost to rain. Pakistan's bowlers found plenty of movement in the overcast conditions and were rewarded with the wickets of David Warner (38), Usman Khawaja (42) and Steve Smith (26).
Catches win matches, as goes the saying but Pakistan didn't have the best of start in the field as they took on Australia in the second Test of series in Melbourne. The tourists let the chance of getting the dangerous Aussie opening batter David Warner out early as Abdullah Shafique dropped one of the easiest chances in the slips. David Warner edged a delivery from Shaheen Shah Afridi into the hands of Shafique who just coudn't grab the ball successfully, leaving his teammates disappointed and Warner amused.
