Arsenal could need ‘one or two’ more signings to seriously challenge for the top four this season, according to transfer insider Dean Jones. Mikel Arteta has overseen a busy few months of business at the Emirates but could still add more names to his squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.

The Gunners moved quickly to secure their top targets in the transfer window. Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos have all arrived, with the latest deal completed by the end of July.

In terms of outgoings, nine first-team stars have departed, with Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Bernd Leno among those to leave on either permanent or loan deals as Arteta and Edu look to offload some fringe talent.

It remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal will strengthen further ahead of the deadline, having made a strong start to the Premier League season.
