A man and a woman are in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a serious crash on a main route in Monmouthshire.

The A40 in Monmouthshire is closed on the eastbound carriageway following the collision. The two hospitalised are in their seventies, police say.

The incident happened between Raglan’s High Street and the A449 interchange - an accident hotspot where locals have long called for road changes.

Last year the route was changed from the national speed limit to 50mph, but some say more needs to be done.Multiple emergency services are at the scene following the latest collision on the stretch.
