Looking purely at the scoreline, it is rare that any positives can be taken from a 4-0 pre-season defeat. However, Hull City’s loss to Leicester City was not as pitiful as the scoreline suggests.
The Tigers were ultimately beaten by a side who have played in Europe in both of the last two seasons with the ability to swap a Premier League starting XI out for an even better team at half-time. Brendan Rodgers’ side didn’t actually have too many clear-cut chances but the ones they did create ended up in the back of the net.
The pedigree of the goalscorers is enough to tell you that the Foxes just had the benefit of a much stronger squad as Patson Daka, Harvey Barnes, Wesley Fofana and the star of the show James Maddison were the players on the scoresheet. Although, by the same stretch, the objective at the MKM Stadium is to be playing against teams like that every week.
Positives to take for Hull City despite heavy loss to Leicester City
The signings so far this summer have already shown that City’s ambition of making it to the Premier League is more than supported by Acun Ilicali. One of the new recruits, in particular, has been brilliant in pre-season so far and that player is Jean Michael Seri.
There were high expectations of the Ivorian midfielder from the Tigers fanbase but he is already doing everything he can to justify his arrival in East Yorkshire. He has really stood out in both the games against Malaga and Leicester and has left his new supporters purring over his performances.
Even though they watched their side lose 4-0, plenty of City fans flocked to Twitter to praise Seri’s showing on Wednesday evening. Here is what some of them had to say.
