Manchester Marathon places SOLD OUT as record number gear up for event

Entries for this year's Manchester Marathon have sold out - with a record number of participants set to take part. Organisers released its final entries for the event on Monday (January 8).

Within hours, there were no places left. A record 32,000 participants are now set to take on the 26.2-mile course on Sunday, April 14.

Monday's release saw the final 10 per cent of participant places being released. But more than 20,000 people had already pre-registered for the remaining spots, including participants from abroad, leaving thousands unable to secure a place in the race.

More than 125,000 spectators are expected to line the streets of Trafford and Manchester to offer their support, while local clubs and volunteers will help to hand out water and direct visitors. Organisers say the event is 'fast becoming known as the world's friendliest marathon', and it is already one of the biggest in Europe.

Andrew Smith, chief executive of Human Race, which organises the Manchester Marathon, said: "We are delighted that the adidas Manchester Marathon has completely sold out in record demand despite an increase in capacity. The demand for places has been incredible which is testament to the enthusiasm of the people of Greater Manchester.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming more than 30,000 people of all abilities to the start line and to making the 2024 adidas Manchester Marathon the most memorable yet.” It's hoped the record-breaking event will provide another boost to Greater Manchester, with last year's event believed to have benefitted the local economy by more than £21m.
