Zach Clough speaks out on where it went wrong for him at Nottingham Forest

Clough was at Forest from 2017-2021, where he never truly made an impact.

The forward has since ended up in Australia, where he now plays for Adelaide United. The 26-year old moved there in January following his exit from Carlisle United.

Since arriving in Adelaide, he has opened up on his time with Forest and why believes the move to the City Ground never quite worked out.

“I feel like when I was a lot younger, I was flying of course – got a big move to Forest, started off really well there,” said Clough, via Adelaide’s official website.

“But it was kind of like a lot of changes in managers, coming and going, and the ownership changed and I feel like they probably didn’t want me at the club and I still had three years left on my contract.

“So it’s one of those things in football where a lot of players come and go, and if you’re not wanted you’re just not wanted from the get-go really.

“It was nothing to do with football, it was probably more finances.”

There were high expectations on Clough upon his arrival from Bolton Wanderers. However, he never settled and couldn’t break his way into the team consistently.

He left the club for Carlisle at the start of the 2021-22 season on a free transfer and has now moved on to Australia.

Sometimes a wrong move at the wrong time can just completely upend a career.

Unfortunately for Clough, things just never worked out at Forest. However, he is still only 26 and can still make a good career out of his talent.

The A-League has had some exceptional talent play in it through the years and consistently gets decent media coverage, so he won’t be entirely forgotten by going halfway across the world.

If he can perform well enough in Australia, then perhaps a move back to a Championship
