Young Tranmere Rovers team sets the standard after winning national title

A group of budding Merseyside football stars of the future have got an early taste of glory by winning a national title.

Tranmere Rovers under-13s were already North West Junior Premier League champions when they faced Southern champions BRS Coaching YFC in the Junior Premier League National Pathway Final at Macclesfield Town's Moss Rose stadium on Saturday, May 21.

And it was the young Whites from Birkenhead who came out on top, clinching the title in emphatic style with a 3-0 win. Victory for the young Rovers players saw them declared Junior Premier League National Pathway champions out of 135 teams across the country.

After the team, coached by Scott Windsor, Tony Pulford, Jimmy O'Gorman and Andy McDonough, clinched the North West title, Rovers faced North East champions South Shields FC on May 2, and although the two sides drew 0-0 it was the Super White Army who progressed 3-0 via a penalty shoot-out.

Up next were Midlands champions MK Dons Sport & Education Trust (SET) on May 7, but they were no match for the rampant Rovers, who cruised to a 3-0 win before going on to face BRS in the national final.

Rovers' subsequent 3-0 triumph means that not only are they Junior Premier League National Pathway champions, but they also achieved the feat without losing a single match all season.
