"You'd be tempted" – Transfer insider shares intriguing Yarmolenko claim at West Ham

West Ham might be tempted to offer Andriy Yarmolenko a new deal, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 106-cap Ukraine international is out of contract at the end of the season, but the attacker has scored some crucial goals for the Hammers in recent games.

It’s largely been a frustrating spell since the 32-year-old signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2018, with injuries and a lack of form restricting him to just 78 appearances in just under four years.

In fact, Yarmolenko hasn’t started a Premier League game since December 2020, while he’s only been in the starting XI 16 times in total in the top-flight during his Hammers career.

But in recent weeks, Yarmolenko has proved a key player off the bench, scoring the opener against Aston Villa to set West Ham on their way to a 2-1 victory, before he came up with a priceless extra-time winner against Sevilla last Thursday to send David Moyes’ side into the quarter finals of the Europa League.

Yarmolenko scored more goals in the space of those five day than the previous 13 months before that, and Jones believes that his contributions could lead to the Hammers extending his stay at the club.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Yarmolenko hasn’t had a great season, but the last few weeks he’s managed to overcome some difficulties personally and put in the best performances we’ve seen from him.

“If you were to look at it in instant reaction, you’d be tempted to offer him a new contract, but I’m not sure that is the answer right now.”

While Yarmolenko’s impact of late has been priceless, his time at West Ham on the whole has been mainly disappointing.
