WWE salaries: Mick Foley reveals how much he earned as champion in 1999

In the late 1990s, Mankind twice held the WWF Championship.

Mankind was one of a few characters portrayed by Mick Foley and either side of The Rock, he held the honour of being the main champion in the organisation.

After the title was vacated in the September of 1998, The Rock overcame Mankind in a Deadly Game tournament to be thrust into the limelight of the World Wrestling Federation.

As 1998 was soon to become 1999, Mankind got his revenge on Raw and won the title in Worcester, MA.

The following month, at Royal Rumble in Anaheim, The Rock won the belt back in an “I quit” match. This wasn’t the end of this back and forth, though, as a half-time special for Super Bowl XXXIII saw Mankind strike back just a couple of days later.

The Denver Broncos beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-19 that year before The Rock had the last laugh in a ladder match in February.

On the topic of Mick Foley and his time as the champ, the three-time WWF Champion recently revealed the salary he was receiving at the time on his “Foley is Pod.”

“Yeah, $400,000 felt like the holy grail to me, where if I could get a couple years at 400 that we could save a lot of money. Looking back at 400 grand was a lot of money. But you need to have 10 years at 400 before you can say that you’re good, you know, like, it’s even then, you know, you’re with taxes and traveling all that.

“I mean, this is, I know a lot of the country is struggling and a lot of people listening would love to be in a position where they’re making $400,000 25 years ago.”

This was Foley’s purse when he first donned the belt and as previously mentioned, he would hold it twice more thanks to this epic rivalry with The Rock.
