Wrexham v Grimsby Town: An opposing view as Dragons prepare for vital semi final clash

Wrexham AFC will face Grimsby Town this weekend after the Mariners overcame Notts County at Meadow Lane to secure a National League play off semi final tie at the Racecourse on Saturday (kick off 12.30pm). Paul Hurst's men saw off the Magpies 2-1 over 120 minutes after late goals in both normal time and extra time.

Ahead of the vital clash, North Wales Live spoke to Elliott Jackson of Grimsby Live to get the view from the opposition camp as well as the players to keep an eye out for and how Mariners fans are viewing the game. The Blundell Park side come into the game in better form than the Dragons after two disappointing results in London have threatened to derail the Reds' campaign.

Wrexham lost on the final day of the National League season at Dagenham & Redbridge before also suffering defeat in the FA Trophy final at Wembley on Sunday. Phil Parkinson has insisted he is confident his side will bounce back however.

"Grimsby went 1-0 down to a penalty which I think was slightly harsh but a lot of people thought it was a penalty. Literally last kick of the game, the goalkeeper has come up and they've hoisted the ball in, then Holohan pops it into the bottom corner.

"Extra time was a bit cagey and scrappy and then again another set piece is launched into the box. Waterfall headed it down and Dieseruvwe has managed to smuggle it in to win the game."
