Wout Weghorst has given Manchester United a difficult transfer decision to make this summer

Since his January arrival, it's fair to say that Wout Weghorst hasn’t had the impact most Manchester United fans would have hoped for, with the Burnley loanee failing to score in his first seven Premier League games for the club. However, manager Erik ten Hag has clearly seen something he likes in the Dutchman.

Weghorst has featured in every match for United since his arrival on loan from Burnley - he was not registered in time to make his debut in the Manchester derby on January 14 - so it is clear that Ten Hag is a fan of his compatriot.

His ability to bring others into play has been a key feature of United's performances, with his hold-up and movement allowing teammates the space and time they need to flourish. High-flying Marcus Rashford has scored all of his last five United goals whilst Weghorst has been on the pitch, highlighting the loanee’s impact on his attacking partners.

Despite the stereotype that he's a one-dimensional target man, Weghorst has been a very versatile player for Ten Hag, highlighted by his displays in the No.10 role. This is why the likes of Rashford and the returning Jadon Sancho are having such a positive impact, with United’s wide players able to stretch the pitch and occupy more advanced positions.

Weghorst has averaged 1.1 key passes per game for United, more than both Rashford and Antony who both average 0.7 per game.
