'Would be quite something...' - Journalist hints Rangers star could make shock return vs Celtic

Andrew Dickson has hinted that Alfredo Morelos could now make a shock return to Glasgow Rangers for their Old Firm clash against Celtic.

Morelos was not picked for the Colombia squad again for their latest FIFA World Cup qualifier against Argentina, posing more question marks over why he was called up in the first place.

Nonetheless, he will of course be returning to Ibrox, but the real question is when, with their crucial game away at Celtic looming large.

Taking to Twitter, journalist Dickson has hinted that Morelos could now make a shock return to the squad ahead of the derby.

Taking into account that he has not played in any of Colombia’s qualifiers, the reporter suggests Ibrox chiefs would ‘certainly’ have at least asked the question:

“No Morelos again, total waste of time.

“Would be quite something if they’ve let him leave the squad to return to Scotland in time to make the game tomorrow night.

“Would certainly expect someone at Rangers to have raised that possibility after he wasn’t involved in the first game.”

Yes, Morelos may suffer jet lag if he is rushed back to Scotland too quickly, but he has not played any football, and so should still be fresh in that regard.

With the match so crucial at the top of the table, the Teddy Bears will need all of the help that they can get, and that means playing their best players.

Morelos is currently ranked as their fifth-best player in the SPFL so far this season, and is their highest scorer with eight goals (WhoScored), thus Giovanni van Bronckhorst now needs to make the tough but vital decision to play him tonight if there is even the remotest possibility.
