WorldSBK rules out minimum combined weight

There will be no minimum combined weight in WorldSBK for the 2023 season the Superbike Commission ruled

With conversations ongoing in recent months both inside and out of the World Superbike paddock, riders such as Alvaro Bautista and Scott Redding have been the most vocal on each end of the spectrum regarding the need, or not, for a minimum combined weight for rider and bike.

Former Ducati man Redding highlighted the near 30kg difference between himself and his aruba.it replacement on Instagram, prompting a discussion between both the two protagonists and a raft of riders past and present but the argument, it seems, is now moot.

“The question of a minimum combined weight (Rider/Machine) has been ruled out by the ‘SBK Permanent Bureau’” a statement from the WorldSBK Commission confirmed, before addressing additional changes to be implemented.

WorldSSP300 will run flag-to flag races from the 2023 season, bringing the lightweight class in-line with its more mature counterparts, while testing restrictions for the two WorldSSP and WorldSSP300 classes prohibit riders and teams from testing or racing at championship locations within 11 days of the circuit’s official event.

Technical rules for the Supersport and Supersport Next Generation category will see 2022 regulations maintained for an additional year, allowing current manufacturers under the Supersport rules to work to meet the base of technical/balancing rules for the 2024 Supersport Next Generation, mandatory for all manufacturers.
