WorldSBK Estoril: Laverty passed fit after private test

Bonovo BMW’s Eugene Laverty has been passed fit for Portugal’s first WorldSBK visit at Estoril this week.

The Northern Irishman, who lives on the Algarve, had been forced to miss Assen’s racing due to a Friday practice fall but is back and fighting fit for his first of three home races this season.

A mid-season test at Oschersleben last week saw both Laverty and his Bonovo teammate Loris Baz in action, allowing the 35-year-old to assess his recovery ahead of round three this weekend.

“Last week we had the chance to do some laps at Oschersleben,” Laverty said ahead of his adopted home race. “For me it was a great opportunity to get back on the bike and test my physical condition before the next round in Estoril and I felt good.

“Last year in Estoril I had a strong pace, so I am optimistic to have a strong weekend. We are now entering the summer stage of racing, so we will see how the BMW M 1000 RR performs at higher track temperatures.

“My teammate Loris did a great job last time out in Assen so the whole Bonovo action BMW Racing team is in a great mood. After having to miss the last round due to injury, I really want to be part of the party in Estoril.”
