World Cup Podcast: Argentina and the 32-team format shine

Michael Foley of The Sunday Times joins Mikey Stafford and Anthony Pyne to watch the frantic finale to Group C as Argentina finally hit form and Poland had Saudi Arabia to thank for keeping Mexico at bay.

The simultaneous kick-offs with four teams in the hunt displayed the glory of the 32-team format which will be consigned to history after this tournament.

A 48-team tournament is planned for 2026, with FIFA yet to decide between 16 groups of three and 12 groups of four. Michael, who is currently making a series of podcasts about the 1982 World Cup is emphatic on the peril of three-team groups.

The lads look ahead to tomorrow's matches, including old Belgium against experienced Croatia, while also looking back and reminiscing on tournaments of yesteryear.
