Working group to examine All-Ireland final days

A GAA working group has been appointed to re-evaluate All-Ireland final days in Croke Park to address a range of issues, focusing on programme costs, curtain-raisers, presentations, and all other activities on the day.

This year has seen scrutiny placed on the timings of jubilee teams presentations, with many calling for this event to take place at half-time on finals days in front of a full house.

The lack of a curtain-raiser has also been brought up.

Meanwhile, the association has set up a football review committee, including some stellar names to look at the direction that Gaelic football is taking.

The project is led by the GAA's coaching and games development committee.

Former Galway footballer John Tobin will spearhead the review, along with the organisation's national player development lead Jack Cooney and director of coaching and games development Shane Flanagan.

The consultation will feature some of the sport’s top names, such as All-Ireland winning managers Billy Morgan and Pat Gilroy, and former All-Ireland winning captain Michael Murphy.

Last weekend’s Central Council meeting also cleared the way for an independent study into the economic and social value of the GAA.

That project will be complete by the end of next year and will be carried out by independent consultants.
