Leigh Wood faces Michael Conlan on Saturday night as he defends his WBA featherweight belt in front of a hometown crowd.
It is the first time the Nottingham favourite has put the title he won via a dramatic 12th-round stoppage of China’s Xu Can at Matchroom Fight Camp in Brentwood last July on the line.
That was a real upset and Wood has another stiff test ahead against Belfast’s Conlan, who is looking to become a world champion for the first time this weekend.
The popular London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist is an unbeaten 16-0 as a professional and earned his title shot with a dominant victory over T.J. Doheny on home soil last summer, picking up the interim belt.
