A woman who died - days after a report was made to police about her being assaulted - had 'numerous unexplained injuries', an inquest heard.

Ms Brown-Wellington was taken to Fairfield General Hospital, where she later died.

At the opening of an inquest into her death this morning (Monday), police coroners' officer Philip Dawber outlined the circumstances surrounding her death.

"Charrissa Brown-Wellington was found by ambulance crews not breathing at an address in Bury," he told the court.

"She was taken to Fairfield General Hospital. She had numerous unexplained injuries to her body.

"A report was made to police about her being assaulted in the days prior to her passing."

He added: "Following further investigations and enquiries, a male has been charged with section 18 assault and has been technically bailed on suspicion of murder whilst enquiries continue."

No family members were present at the short hearing.

Ms Brown-Wellington - who was born in Crumpsall and whose address was given as Chadderton, Oldham - was single at the time of her death the hearing was told.

Her occupation was given as homemaker.

Area coroner Catherine McKenna formally opened and adjourned the inquest into her death. She said she would require a copy of the full post-mortem report.

The case will be reviewed in April.
