Woman was allegedly confronted by two men while trying to check on another woman 'being raped' by Benjamin Mendy, court hears

A woman was allegedly confronted by two 'aggressive' men as she tried to check on another woman who was 'being raped' by Benjamin Mendy, a court has heard.

The woman said she became concerned after the alleged victim told her to ‘come and check on her’ but did not know what was happening until she spoke to her later.

The alleged victim, Woman Four, accuses the Manchester City defender of raping her while they were alone in a cinema room during a gathering at his home in rural Cheshire in July 2021. He denies all charges against him.

Today, jurors at Chester Crown Court heard that before heading downstairs with Mr Mendy, the alleged victim told another woman to check on her if she failed to return within five minutes.

The witness - Woman Five - also accuses Mr Mendy's co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie of sexually assaulting her that same evening.

She told the court that Woman Four had told her she was going downstairs to get her bag so she could get changed.

“She did not specifically say she was worried but I could tell by the look on her face she was,” she said. “She said ‘Ben is coming down with me’ and gave me a look.”

Asked by Sarah Holt, prosecuting, how she felt at the time, Woman Five said: "Nervous. Like something was off with the situation.”

When Woman Four did not return, Woman Five said she headed downstairs to try and find her.

But after ‘two to three steps’, she was stopped by two black males who approached her from behind and spoke to her ‘quite aggressively’, she told the court.

She alleged that the men had said to her: “Wow, wow, wow, wow, what are you doing?”

She said she told the men
