Woman killed in crash after being hit by car while crossing the road

A woman has died after being hit by a car on a major road in Bury. The 30-year-old victim was crossing Manchester Road when she was hit by a Peugeot 108 on October 2.

Emergency services were called to the scene, near to the junction with Dumers Lane, at about 9.30pm. The woman was taken to hospital in a critical condition. She has since died from her injuries.

The driver of the Peugeot - a 57-year-old woman - stopped on the scene after the smash. She was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care. She has since been released on bail.

Following the crash, a large number of police cars were pictured at the scene as a stretch of the road was cordoned off.

Investigations were carried out, with a damaged Peugeot 108 pictured inside the taped off area. The windscreen of the car appeared to have been smashed.

Greater Manchester Police later issued a public appeal, urging witnesses or anyone with information or footage to come forward.

At the time, a spokesperson for the force said: "Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

"They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell footage, from the area in the moments leading up to the collision. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting log number 3263 of 02/10/2024.
