Wolves: 'Interest from clubs across Europe' in 58-cap Molineux star

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ hopes of persuading Romain Saiss to sign a new Molineux contract have been boosted because he wants to continue playing ‘at the highest level’ despite interest from overseas, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Saiss has been a key man for Wolves, racking up 200 appearances since heading to the West Midlands, but there is serious uncertainty over the central defender’s long-term future.

As things stand, Saiss is set to leave Wolves on a free transfer in a matter of months as his £22,000-per-week contract is due to expire at the end of June.

Having entered the final six months of his agreement at the turn of the year, the 58-cap Morocco international is already in a position to pen a pre-contract agreement with overseas suitors.

According to Moroccan media outlet Hespress, Spanish giants Sevilla are looking to take advantage of Saiss’ precarious situation.

The report suggests sporting director Monchi is an admirer of the 31-year-old and eager to agree terms with the central defender.

But it appears Saiss’ current employers are still keen to keep him at the club as The Athletic reporter Tim Spiers has suggested he is expecting Wolves to open negotiations over a new deal despite the rejection of fresh terms last summer.

O’Rourke understands that Sevilla are not Saiss’ only suitors as clubs outside of Europe are also keeping tabs on his situation.
