Wolves FC reward "versatile and consistent" Derry-born forward with a new contract

Wolves have rewarded Lee Harkin with a new contract with the club’s technical director Scott Sellars hailing the teenager as a player of great versatility and promise.

Harkin, who can operate as a winger or striker, has penned a one year deal with the option of another 12 months.

The Derry-born forward, who turns 19 next month, joined Wolves in 2019 and went on to sign his first professional contract with the club in July 2020.

Technical director Sellars, who played for Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers, said: “Since Lee has been here he’s been a solid and consistent player and we’re pleased.

“He has had a good year. He worked hard coming back from injury to get back into the team, he’s performed really well, and we’ve been pleased with his attitude.

“He’s full of energy, trying to do the right thing, and in the last few weeks he has met the challenge we set (him) for goals.

“There’s always a step up to the under-23s and he’s done that as a first-year pro, so has set a good standard for himself.”

Sellars believes Harkin, who scored three goals for Wolves U23s last month, is being rewarded for the focus and dedication he has shown in his three years at Molineux.

He told the Wolverhampton Wanderers website: “Lee has played a lot as a winger, but we’ve played him more as a striker this year.

“We’ve seen him develop and grow. He’s a really hard-working kid, who commits every day, and he’s getting his rewards. He’s versatile which is great and we’re delighted he has stayed.

“In our style of play, inside wingers are very important, and he can do that as well as play down the middle, which is going to benefit him in the long term and present more opportunities.”
