Wolves closing in on €45m Matheus Nunes

Wolves have agreed to pay what will be a club-record fee to Sporting Lisbon for Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes.

Personal terms are still to be agreed with the 23-year-old but it's understood Wolves are optimistic of completing the signing of Nunes imminently after striking a deal for an initial €45m, with a further €5m in potential add-ons.

That eclipses the £35m (€40m) Wolves paid Porto for Fabio Silva in 2020.

The Brazil-born Nunes, who has attracted the attention of several leading clubs and had been linked with Manchester City and Liverpool, would be Bruno Lage's third signing of the summer.

Wolves have already completed deals for Portugal forward Goncalo Guedes, who joined from Valencia, and Republic of Ireland defender Nathan Collins from Burnley.

Nunes, who turned down an opportunity to play for Brazil, made his debut for Portugal last year and has gone on to win eight caps, scoring one goal.
