Wolvaardt excited to play first Proteas game at Newlands: 'I can't wait to turn it up'

On Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a new campaign called 'Turn it Up' to garner nationwide interest ahead of the T20 global showpiece.

The T20 Women's World Cup will be held for the first time on African soil from 10-26 February 2023, and it'll be the first senior ICC World Cup hosted in SA since 2007.

The Proteas women are in Group 1 alongside Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand and Bangladesh and open the tournament against Sri Lanka at Newlands on 10 February.

Despite playing 80 ODIs, 42 T20Is and a Test for the Proteas, Wolvaardt will be playing her first international game at her home ground in Cape Town.

"I am excited at the thought of the Women's T20 World Cup being only 100 days away," said Wolvaardt in a press statement.

"Hosting a World Cup at home is special. It is something that might only happen once in my career. It will be the first time we will be playing in a World Cup with some home support, and that is something I am looking forward to.

"It will also be the first time I play for South Africa at Newlands. I have only played one or two provincial games but never for South Africa. It is one of the most beautiful grounds in the world, so to be there for a World Cup game will be incredible."
