Winter Olympics 2022: Robot army serving drinks, coffee and making food in Beijing is fascinating

With the Winter Olympic Games having kicked off in Beijing on 4 February, a host of crazy things have surfaced across the internet.

With China’s policy of “zero Covid”, foreign spectators are barred, and tickets are not on sale to the general public.

Instead, groups of local spectators are “invited” to events in which they must observe strict Covid prevention measures.

Those working within the Covid secure bubble are not allowed any physical contact with the outside world.

Although kitchen staff and cooks are at hand, videos have surfaced in recent days of robots making hot drinks and coffees for those in need at the Olympic village. Machines are also being used to cook, deliver food to hotel rooms, clean the floors, check people’s temperatures, and remind them to wear a mask.

The machines can be seen frying chips, shaking up cocktails and one even cleaning up after itself.

A UFO-style machine has also been created by those involved within the Olympics which flies to deliver food to athletes.

Although the source of technology has been questioned by many across social media, the machines are doing their best in order to stop the spread of the virus, limiting human contact between each other.

Since January 23, there have been 287 positive cases among Games-related personnel, including athletes and staff from 610,000 tests.

All participants out in China must take daily PCR tests, with face masks mandatory at all times, except for during competing and training, eating and drinking and being alone in rooms.
