Williams reveals new livery on FW44 F1 car for 2022

Williams has unveiled a brand new livery that it will run on its 2022 Formula 1 car as it aims to hit the ground running with this year’s major regulation changes.

After finishing bottom of the constructors’ championship three years running, Williams made headways in 2021 as it secured its best overall finish for four seasons.

A mid-season surge elevated the Grove-based outfit to eighth in the constructors standings’ ahead of Alfa Romeo and Haas, and included a podium finish at the abandoned Belgian Grand Prix.

Having shown signs of a potential revival in the first full year under owners Dorilton Capital, Williams is eyeing further gains this season with the new generation of F1 cars.

Nicholas Latifi remains at the team for a third consecutive season, hoping to build on a much-improved sophomore campaign that saw him seal his maiden career points.

Following the loss of George Russell to Mercedes, Williams has hired former Red Bull driver Alex Albon to partner Latifi this year.

The Anglo-Thai driver fell out of favour at Red Bull and spent 2021 on the sidelines as its reserve driver, but returns to a full-time race seat with 38 grand prix’s under his belt.

The FW44 will be the first car designed by technical director Francois-Xavier Demaison, and sports a dark blue livery with shades of light blue and red, moving away from Williams’ traditional blue and white colour scheme.

Williams is the sixth F1 team to launch its 2022 challenger, with Ferrari, Mercedes, Alpine and Alfa Romeo the only outfits yet to unveil their designs.

The team will hand the FW44 its first on-track outing at Silverstone after Tuesday’s launch, before giving it a run-out at the first pre-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on February
